We are a small but active social club, and we extend a warm welcome to anyone who enjoys good company. Our first event was held in March 1987. Several people who have been with us right from the beginning are still members of this really friendly group. We are non profit-making - all income from subscriptions goes towards the running of the club.
We arrange a variety of events including coffee evenings, rambles, concerts, restaurant visits, tenpin bowling, games evenings, quizzes, and plenty of at-home entertaining. On average there are 2-3 events per week. Also, we run interest groups for theatre, bridge, scrabble, and much more.
HORIZONS is really more like an extended circle of friends than a social club. Most of our members live in the Harrow, Watford, Uxbridge and Ruislip areas. Our ages range from mid forties to mid sixties, and members include singles and couples. We currently have about 92 members.
Every two months we produce a programme, which is arranged and co-ordinated by a different group of members. We have a small committee which co-ordinates the club, but also we encourage everyone to help arrange events and put forward ideas. The annual subscription mainly covers programme production and distribution, as well as publicity; the costs of each event is usually covered by contributions from those participating.
Prospective members are welcome to come along to most of the events on our programme: just see what takes your fancy, phone the event organiser, and come along! Very occasionally we ask that paid up members only come along, but these events are clearly marked.
